Hey, I’m Jane! I’m a senior at UNC Chapel Hill studying Journalism & Religious Studies.

Journalism – Over four years at the Hussman School, I have encountered the immense power of effective storytelling and relized my love for writing feature and longform stories. My work has been published in student-run publications, such as the Daily Tar Heel and Coulture Magazine. During the Fall 2023 semester, I studied journalism at City University in London, England, embracing the unique challenge of reporting far from home and outside of my comfort zone.

Religious Studies – As a preacher’s kid, avid Sunday School goer, etc., I was thrown off by my first religious studies course, Intro to the Old Testament. I was not used to studying the Bible from a scholarly, historical standpoint. I was also inspired to take as many religious studies courses as possible – in as many possible areas of study – before graduation. I am most interested in, and have extensively researched, the intersection between contemporary Christianity and nature. In the future, I hope to further my religious studies education in some way, though I don’t know yet what that will look like :)

Outdoor Recreation – I currently lead rock climbing, backpacking, and paddling trips for UNC students with the UNC Expeditions program. Post-graduation, I am excited to continue to share my love for the outdoors with others as an Outward Bound instructor in Western North Carolina.
